Who Are The Sevenoaks Players

The Sevenoaks Players are the premiere amateur theatre company in Sevenoaks. They were founded in 1922 and have continued to produce first class theatrical productions in the Sevenoaks Area since then.

Here are a few questions you might like to ask:

What kind of Theatrical Presentations are staged by The Sevenoaks Players?

Basically all kinds. We stage full Musicals ranging from recent West End and Broadway successes to more golden classics such as Rodgers & Hammerstein or Gilbert & Sullivan.

We produce plays such as comedies, thrillers and even period dramas. We also usually present smaller shows in the summer, both musical and non musical and take part in local drama festivals including the Sevenoaks Drama Festival. There are many other concerts and one night entertainments in the year and the occasional “Old Tyme Music Hall”.

Where do you perform your shows?

Our main productions are usually staged at the Stag Theatre in Sevenoaks and we have recently made a home for ourselves at Otford Village Hall but we use a variety of venues for other shows. For example we have used the Ship Theatre at Walthamstow Hall School and Knole Academy.

What about rehearsals?

These can be flexible but usually take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Sunday rehearsals are essential as a major production nears completion.

Are there Social Events?

Yes. We organise informal nights at a local pub and arrange quizzes and other fund raising activities. Tea and coffee are available at main rehearsals and it is hoped that members will enjoy some refreshment in the local watering hole afterwards.

How do I get into a show?

This is always by audition, but you are unsuccessful in obtaining a role or a place in the ensemble, we will always welcome you backstage or Front of House.

Who runs the Sevenoaks Players?

We have a Management Committee which is elected every year at an Annual General Meeting. We also adhere to a Safeguarding Policy for young people and vulnerable adults.

What does it cost to join?

Adult members pay an annual subscription of £12 whilst junior members pay £6. It is essential that anyone taking part in a show must be a paid up member.

Who can become a member?

We welcome members of all ages. Young people under 16 years of age have to be chaperoned during the performance and its always best to find out if the current production is suitable for young people.

Are there any further costs?

Yes. If cast in a show you will have to pay a rehearsal fee. This covers the expense of hiring rehearsal rooms etc. The amount will vary from show to show depending on how long and involved rehearsals will be. Although costumes are usually provided you may be expected to use your own personal items such as shoes, stockings, shirts etc.

The Sevenoaks Players are a friendly sociable group that has high standards of presentation. Why not come along and meet us?
